DIY Boat Rentals & Self-Guided Steelhead on Prince of Wales Island

Want to fish Alaska your own way? Pacific Parallax offers self-guided fishing out of Craig, Alaska, on Prince of Wales Island. Rent a boat for halibut and salmon, or chase Prince of Wales steelhead on the rivers with our gear, our vehicle, and our map of good spots. You run the day. We set you up with the local knowledge our family has built charter fishing these waters.

What's included
A boat rigged for fishing, with rods and tackle for up to 4 anglers
Electronics and all safety gear required by law
A pre-trip briefing on the boat, safety gear, local waters and weather
A modern, well-equipped fishing skiff. Full boat details coming soon.

Rates
$1,050 per day, flat rate per boat (up to 4 anglers, rods and tackle included)
Most guests fish 3 days: $3,150 for the boat
Renters pay for all fuel and their own meals. Lodging (at our new Craig lodge, 2027 season) and fish processing are available separately. Call for rates.

Not included
Alaska sport fishing license (plus king salmon stamp for kings), fuel, bait, meals, lodging, fish processing, sales tax and airfare. Renters are responsible for lost or broken gear.

Who can rent
Bareboat only, so no captain is provided. Operators need open-water boating experience and must sign a rental agreement. Everyone gets a safety briefing before departure. No alcohol or drugs while running the boat. Operators must be 21 or older.

Rental policies
Deposit: 50% when you book. The balance is due 30 days before your first day.
Damage deposit: a refundable damage deposit (credit card hold) is taken at check-out. We inspect the boat together on return, and the renter pays for damage, lost gear, or towing.
Cancellation: full refund of the deposit if you cancel 60 or more days out. Within 60 days, the deposit is refundable only if we can rebook the dates.
Weather: we make the call on safe conditions. If we keep the boat at the dock for weather, you get a credit or refund for that day. Choosing not to go on a day we call safe isn't refunded.
Fuel: the boat goes out full and comes back full, or we bill the fuel used.
Safety: life jackets must be worn on deck. You'll have a set fishing area and a daily return time. If you're more than 2 hours overdue, we notify search and rescue and the Coast Guard, and the renter pays any resulting costs.
Alaska doesn't require a boater education card, but we recommend the free Alaska Water Wise course.

What to bring
An Alaska fishing license (buy online from ADF&G), rain gear and warm layers, polarized glasses, a hat and gloves, food and drinks, and fish boxes or coolers for the trip home.

Rather have a guide?
Our all-inclusive guided halibut and salmon packages run 3 to 5 days with lodging, on up to 3 boats for groups of up to 12. Book 4 anglers on a guided package by 12/31/26 and the 5th fishes free. (guided packages only)
