DIY Boat Rentals & Self-Guided Steelhead on Prince of Wales Island

Want to fish Alaska your own way? Pacific Parallax offers self-guided fishing out of Craig, Alaska, on Prince of Wales Island. Rent a boat for halibut and salmon, or chase Prince of Wales steelhead on the rivers with our gear, our vehicle, and our map of good spots. You run the day. We set you up with the local knowledge our family has built charter fishing these waters.

DIY Boat Rentals in Craig, Alaska

Bareboat rentals only. You are the skipper; no captain is provided. If you'd rather have a captain, book one of our guided charters. Every boat comes rigged for fishing with tackle for up to 4 anglers, electronics, and the safety gear required by law. We go over the boat, safety gear, local waters, and weather with you before you head out.

Boat rental: $1,050 per day, flat rate per boat (up to 4 anglers, rods and tackle included)

Most guests fish 3 days: $3,150 for the boat.

Renters cover all fuel and their own meals. Lodging and fish processing are available separately; call for rates.

DIY River Steelhead on Prince of Wales Island

Prince of Wales Island steelhead fishing is some of the best in Southeast Alaska, and you can do it on your own. We provide:

  • Waders

  • Wading boots

  • A vehicle to reach the island's road-accessible rivers

  • Our map of good spots

3-day DIY steelhead trip: $1,400 per person (3 days of fishing plus lodging, vehicle, waders, boots, and map). Meals and fish processing are not included.

Steelhead on Prince of Wales streams are catch-and-release, and many streams allow only unbaited artificial lures or flies. Check current ADF&G regulations before you fish.

Not Included

Alaska sport fishing license (and king salmon stamp if fishing for kings), fuel, bait, meals, lodging, fish processing, sales tax, and airfare. Lost or broken gear is the renter's responsibility.

What to Bring

Alaska fishing license (buy online from ADF&G), rain gear and warm layers, polarized glasses, hat and gloves, food and drinks, and fish boxes or coolers for the trip home.

Who Can Rent

Boat operators need open-water boating experience and must sign a rental agreement. Everyone gets a safety briefing before departure. No alcohol or drugs while running the boat.

Our guided halibut and salmon charters run 3 to 5 day packages with lodging, with up to three boats for groups of up to 12.
